I have a confession to make. I’m not a huge fan of H & M. I know this statement is basically the equivalent of committing blasphemy in the fashion blogosphere, but it’s just the way I feel. The fact is that I think H & M uses too much polyester and that their clothes are often ill fitting and poorly tailored. Mostly, I just go there for basics like tanks and tees. They do, however, occasionally create a line that I can get behind. The current Conscious Exclusive Collection, which became available on April 4, is one of these lines.
H & M has really outdone itself this time, combining beautiful design with sustainability. The pieces in this partywear collection are made from organic cotton and silk, and recycled polyester and polyamide, proving that fashion can be eco-friendly without sacrificing aesthetics.
Whatever you think about H & M’s products, they should be commended for actively trying to make their company sustainable. H & M is the number one user of organic cotton worldwide, they’ve started a program to educate Bangladeshi workers on their rights, and are making a sincere effort to reduce their water consumption. You can read more about their efforts here.
I suppose even I can make space in my heart for a little bit of recycled polyester in the name of sustainable fashion.
