Greeks Do It Better: Yiorgos Eleftheriades

In part three of my series on Greek designers, I’ll be focusing on Yiorgos Eleftheriades.  The Athens-based designer is well established in Greece, and his collections have been displayed in Athens, Paris, Berlin and Barcelona.   Eleftheriades has been using natural and eco-friendly textiles since the beginning of his career, and the following message is printed on every label: ‘protect the earth, we’ve only got one’.  Cool, or what?

According to his website, “His philosophy is based upon his love for classical forms.  In his search for contemporary elegance, he aims to create a truly alternative urban style with interesting shapes, quality tailoring and experimental combinations of fabrics and textures.  He is often fond of bringing together contrasting materials or elements.  The main idea behind his perception is a trans-seasonal timelessness and a glamorous but cool day-to-night approach.”  His designs are highly wearable, yet unique and have a minimalistic feel which I absolutely love.

Here are a few of my personal favorites from his spring/summer 2013 collection.  You can view the entire collection here.

And if you just can’t get enough, here are a few selections from previous collections shown during Barcelona’s fashion weeks:
